Have you ever considered the origin of the front porch? Odd to think about the demise of the front porch and the recent resurrection of both the front porch and the back porch.
Now, in 'The South' we've always considered the porch the best place for 'settin' with a glass of sweet tea and friends. It's also a great place for kids to play when it's raining, you need them out from under your feet, and you can't send them out to the yard to play. That is, of course, if you can get them away from their electronics - that integral part of their life.
At one time the porch was considered a luxury where the rich could afford to lay about and relax. In the early 1900s after a hard day's labor those homes with no central air and heat were rather stuffy; and, the porch was a place to get a breath of fresh air. Later, it became a significant place where you transitioned from the working world to the safety and security of home. You could hail people you knew as they passed by on an evening walk, ask neighbors over for a drink, or give your favorite girl/guy a push on the porch swing.
What would you like to do on your Porch? Add a little side table? Put up a new porch swing? A little fixer-upper rug? Think about how you would like to spend some time on the Porch...
